2022 Popular Kitchen Paint Trends

Yes, we are glad you asked! One of the more exciting aspects about the start of a new year when you work in the design and coatings industries is the release of the trending color palettes for the year ahead, as well as the popular “Color of the Year” choices from some of the top paint manufacturing companies and the Pantone Color Institute. Below we provide the colors chosen for 2022 and share examples of ways to use these colors and palettes in fun and diverse ways!

Behr Paint’s 2022 Color of the Year is Breezeway (MQ3-21). They refer to it as “the link between home and the action that awaits you.” It is a light, earthy green somewhere in the mint/seafoam realm, and as you can see from the palettes we created on the Behr website, it looks equally nice as an accent wall in the “Home Office Palette” paired with a pale gray (Lunar Surface) on the opposite wall and fireplace brick, with a fresh white (Whisper White) on the trim, as it does as a full wall color in the “Dining Area Palette” where it is paired with an equally earthy but brighter red hue (Lingonberry Punch) on the window trim and bench seats. Further down you see it in a brand-new way in the “Living Room Palette” where we have placed it as an accent on the window & wall trim while we used a dark & bolder wall color (Cracked Pepper). All of these colors and more are part of the Behr 2022 Color Trends Collection, found here.

Benjamin Moore has chosen for their Color of the Year 2022 ~ October Mist 1495. They feel this color is “Evoking the silver-green stem of a flower, October Mist creates a canvas for other colors -and your imagination – to blossom.” We personally love a nice canvas to blossom on and have created two interior palettes using this color. The first is our “Kitchen Palette”, where we used October Mist on the trim and got daring by using the darker “Mysterious” on the walls. We like the way it sets off the white farmhouse style cabinets. In the “Nursery Palette” you can see that we used 3 colors from Ben Moore’s 2022 Color Trends Palette – we have on the walls a very, very light white with a tinge of blue/green in their “Steam”, on the ceiling a nice, light blue-gray in “Quiet Moments”, we have done the trim with a lovely “Pale Pink Satin” (not from this year’s CTP), and then used the October Mist as an accent on the wall design. You can see the entire 2022 palette here on the website.

Sherwin Williams continued the trend when they chose Evergreen Fog (SW 9130) for their Color of the Year 2022. About this they have said, “Evergreen Fog is a versatile and calming hue, a chameleon color of gorgeous green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue. It’s a simple but sophisticated wash of beautiful, organic color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade”. We had fun making a “Bedroom Palette” using “Evergreen Fog” on the walls, “Urbane Bronze” on the trim behind the bed, and “Shoji White” on the trim. We liked the combo so much we did much the same with our “Bathroom Palette”, only this time we also used the “Urbane Bronze” for an accent wall around the soaking tub as well! You can access this year’s palette on Sherwin Williams’ website.
