New clients in Charlestown Township, who have now become treasured repeat customers, tasked us with helping to renovate part of the family room in their town home. They wanted to modernize the room and add a more interesting focal point. The renovation project consisted of not only preparing and painting the ceiling, walls, and wood trim, which included built-in bookcases and cabinets, but we also installed new stone veneer above the fireplace and threshold and trimmed the fire pit opening with stone veneer.
Our client requested a Versailles pattern above the fireplace and continuing up to the ceiling. Versailles patterns require very precise measurements, so this necessitated a lot of planning before cementing the tiles to the wall. All the pieces were different sized squares and rectangles, which had to be picked out by us and the customer based on color and pattern. We then had to hold them in place as our client selected the placement of her favorite pieces for maximum visibility.
The steps required in this project were to first pull up the old carpet and haul it away. We then took down the recessed lighting, cleaned and sanded it, sprayed on 2 coats of paint for a fresh look, and re-installed it after the ceiling was painted.
We made some minor drywall repairs to the walls and ceiling and then spot-primed those repairs. After which we applied 2 finish coats of premium quality latex paint. All the wood trim and built-in shelves and cabinets were sanded and cleaned. They then received 2 coats of premium quality Urethane/Acrylic cabinet coating.
After the new carpet was installed, we returned to the project site and touched-up baseboards. The client added the final decorative touches, and their new family room looked gorgeous and was ready for use!
