Wayne Shadow Box Wainscoting
We were called upon to do a shadow box wainscoting project for a repeat customer in Wayne. She and her husband wanted to give their stairway and landing a fresh, updated look, not to mention add an interesting architectural feature to their house which resides in one of the historical Main Line areas outside of Philadelphia.
This project was completed in two phases. First, we did the stairway and part of the 2nd floor landing. We installed 1 ½ foot shadow boxes, ¾ of an inch in thickness, floor to ceiling, so as not to make the stairway feel crowded.
All the pieces had to be nailed and glued in place for longevity on the plaster walls. All the new wainscot was sanded, primed, and finish painted with Benjamin Moore’s “Vanilla Milkshake” in a semi-gloss finish.
For Phase 2, we enclosed the top of the entryway to the laundry room and installed finish trim to the opening to make a proper doorway. We then installed floor to ceiling wainscoting, a sliding barn door frame, and an antique door that was left over from prior home renovations. Again, we finish painted the wainscot with Benjamin Moore’s “Vanilla Milkshake” in a semi-gloss finish. The antique door was left with a distressed look.
The clients were very happy with the results, and we were as well!
