Exterior Painting and Repair Project
Today we are bringing to your attention a favorite exterior painting and repair project of ours. This home, located in Northern Chester County, consists of great architecture and a color change that we really love. To begin with, notice in the before and after photos the different materials used on the exterior of the house. There is stone, wood clapboard siding, and a section of Everlog siding. We finished the paint job that brought with it the color change. Along with that, the owners also had an addition put on. The addition includes a section of brick, as well as more stone and clapboard siding. It provides a visually stunning combination that is so interesting. When combined with the new colors the owners chose, it looks fantastic in its beautiful countryside setting.
Peeling and Fading
The house was only a few years old when we were called upon to look at the job. Unfortunately, all the paint was peeling from the trim, and the windows were severely fading and had tannin bleeding through the paint. These problems are usually caused by painting over wet surfaces, and not using the appropriate primers.
Tools and Paints
Using a 60-foot mechanical lift for the top levels due to the height of the home as well as the ground slope on the one side, we scraped and sanded all the loose paint and primed everything using a latex primer on the trim and an oil-based primer on the windows that had the tannin bleed-through.
We finished the job with two coats of the highest quality latex paint by Sherwin Williams, their “Emerald” line of exterior house paint. Thanks to the time spent on proper surface preparation, as well as the use of high-quality primers and finish paint, this house will not peel, fade, or discolor for many years.
